SERVICES GIVEN BY THE QUEENSLAND SANGHA ASSOCIATION INC

QSA attempts to provide a number of services to monks, nuns and their institutions. The services are broadly classified into these areas. LEGAL SERVICES

Providing advice regarding constitutions, bylaws and regulations. Implications of purchasing properties and entering into building and other contracts. Occasions requiring the engagement of solicitors and barristers.

MANAGEMENT SERVICES

  • Methods of organising the institution to suit its needs.
  • Keeping accounts in a professional manner.
  • Requirements of the associations incorporation acts. Incorporation process.
  • Obtaining exemption from income tax.
  • Securing gift fund status from the Australian Taxation Office.

TEMPLE DEVELOPMENT PLANNING SERVICES

Advice as to obtaining local authority approval to establish and operate an institution such as a temple. Developing strategies for controlling the costs of the approval process and the development process. Proviiding examples of temples that have succeeded in obtaing development approval in the recent past.

SANGHA WELFARE SERVICES

Helping the Sangha to secure the essential requisites food, robes, shelter and medicine. Helping temples to obtain their requirements at low cost. Facilitating the sharing of resources.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Designing education and training courses for the Sangha and householders who help to run the temples. QSA has taken leadership in the world by providing training courses to eventually become Buddhist Chaplains. The preliminary course will be offered shortly for the third time in 2015. A training course on methods of teaching meditation to children was run sometime ago.  

BUDDHIST CHAPLAINCY SERVICES

A number of persons including the Sangha have now been registered as Buddhist Chaplains with QSA. They expect to serve the community on a larger and more organised scale from now on. As individuals they have given advice to people in difficulties for many years but with the help of QSA their services will be more organised.  

SUNDRY SERVICES

There are many other services that can be given by QSA as needs arise. The process involved in building reliquaries (stupas) and growing Bodhi Trees are two examples.

Publications and books to help in conducting a Dhamma School for children is another example. Setting up a library classification for a Buddhist Library is another.
